I’m excited to share this wedding proposal photoshoot featured in The Knot | W Hotel in Fort Lauderdale

As a wedding and engagement photographer in Fort Lauderdale I am often contacted by nervous men (never women yet!) asking if I offer proposal photography in South Florida. As this is one of my favorite things to shoot, I always jump at the chance at helping the couple document one of the most romantic, sentimental, and memorable occasions they will ever share together. This request was no different, and was featured in The Knot’s ‘How He Asked‘.

Derek wanted to propose to his long-term girlfriend on the 5-year anniversary of their first date. No pressure. We were in contact over the weeks prior to the event to discuss a plan of action.

Derek + Morela both met at the Perry Hotel Rooftop (now called the 1 Hotel) in Miami, 5-years ago. They both live in Washington DC and although Morela was raised in Miami, South Florida, she hadn’t been back to her home-state in 2-years.

As a romantic 21^st Century man, Derek organized a surprise weekend away to celebrate their anniversary. They checked in to the W Hotel in Fort Lauderdale; the venue of their first date. Derek wanted to propose at this venue due to its sentimentality. He wanted to propose on their anniversary, 2/15/18. I knew he wanted me to capture the genuine emotion of the event and to document this sentimental moment to look back on in years to come.

The groom-to-be organized for me to meet him at the venue and do a walk-thru of the areas to get some ideas of where to propose. With the help of the W Hotel’s Marketing Manager, Alexis, a private rooftop overlooking the ocean was the place chosen.

At 5pm as the sun was setting over the ocean, Derek brought Morela out to the rooftop of the W Hotel in Fort Lauderdale where the proposal took place. Posing as a hotel employee taking pictures to update their website, I gave him the ‘thumbs up’ to drop to one knee and ask that all important question. Through tears, Morela accepted.
