Ideas For Wedding Proposals…
I have been contacted several times (always by men, but obviously, women can get ideas by reading this post!), asking if I can come up with ideas on how to capture their surprise proposal. Although proposals are very personal to you as a couple, I decided to put this blog post together to offer you advice on how to put a spin on a romantic and thoughtful proposal.
beach wedding proposal ideas
These are what I get contacted about most. Guys from out of state are visiting South Florida for a short vacation and want to combine the sun, sand and sea with a romantic proposal. Beach proposals are by far, the most popular in Florida. Here are a few ideas to consider:
- write ‘will you marry me’ in the sand and ensure you take a romantic stroll at sunset on the beach so your partner can see the message;
- write a message in a bottle and retrieve the bottle from the waves presenting it to your partner to read;
- build a sandcastle and when h/she isn’t looking, put the ring on the highest part of the castle;
- charter a yacht or boat and propose on board;
- organize a fishing trip and attach the ring box to your rod and reel;
- plan a beach picnic and put the ring in the glass of champagne or inside the picnic hamper for your sweetheart to find.
home wedding proposal ideas
- collect all the photographs and memorabilia of your time together as a couple and fill a room with these memories. Blindfold your partner and lead them to the room where you will be on bended knee after s/he removes the blindfold;
- just like in the movies, turn off all the lights in your home and decorate with candles leading to a room where you will be on bended knee, ready to pop the question;
- present the ring during a romantic breakfast-in-bed with strawberries and champagne;
- play a game of scrabble and ensure you have all the letters to spell out ‘marry me’;
- take an advert out in a newspaper, then sit and relax with your partner to read;
- have a custom-made t-shirt designed with ‘marry me’ written on it and where it whilst you are both at home;
- consider purchasing fridge magnets spelling out the question on the door.
marriage proposals involving food
- organize for the ring box to be on the dessert tray at your favorite restaurant;
- ask the chef at the restaurant to write ‘marry me’ in the sauce on your dessert plate;
- organize for a custom cake to be made with the proposal written on the frosting;
- hire a professional chef to come to your home and cook a romantic meal – propose over dessert.
public wedding proposals
- choose a place that means something to you as a couple and propose next to a fountain, flower bed or a monument significant to you both;
- organize for a street artist to design (legally!) graffiti on a public wall in your city with your proposal;
- set up a treasure hunt ending with your proposal (I’ve photographed this and it’s good fun!).
fun marriage proposal ideas
- put the ring inside your partner’s favorite breakfast cereal box and watch their face as they poor it into their bowl in the morning;
- write a song or poem to include your proposal, and add to your partners favorite iTunes or podcast they listen to in the car;
- one of my favorites I’ve captured many times is to hire a photographer to capture your proposal, but tell your partner you’ve won a romantic couple’s photoshoot. Then propose mid-shoot so I can include romantic engagement photos also!
- another one I’ve done before is hire a photographer and ask them to hide somewhere discreet. Take a walk with your partner, proposing mid-walk. The photographer can capture the before and after shots.
Remember, proposals are very personal to you both. What works for one couple may not for another. A dedicated website is available to help you find unique marriage proposal ideas. How He Asked is the world’s leading proposal site. Take a look to find further wedding and engagement proposal ideas in addition to mine. Whatever method you decide, consider hiring a photographer to capture the proposal and a few romantic engagement shots for a lifetime of memories.
