Most of you know how important it is having a great photographer; one that fits your aesthetic style, someone you can trust, and most of all, fits your budget. Choosing a photographer to capture any of your special moments is a big decision. So, today I want to give you some reasons why hiring a professional photographer versus a family member or friend, is best …
The temptation to cut costs and let your best mate photograph your wedding, your child’s first birthday, or your grandparents 80th wedding anniversary is understandable. However, gambling with your memories of potentially one of the most important days of your life isn’t advisable. Finding an expert that has great reviews, excellent customer service, has perhaps been referred to you by someone you know, you love their style of photography, and of course is within your budget, is something you should research in-depth. Remember, your last 2 months of pregnancy is impossible to recreate for another maternity photoshoot, or walking down the aisle on your special day is generally not something you can do twice in one day!
Look at the pitfalls of not hiring a pro. I’ve read so many articles about brides who thought they’d save money and get friends to take pictures, only to get them back and just find drunken pictures of their friends on the dance floor! When you hire a professional you generally get what you pay for; skills, experience, knowledge, passion, creativity. Can you be sure that getting your Great Uncle Bob to take pictures on his 1990’s phone will help you remember the romance, the fun, the colors, the magic of that day? Possibly, but unlikely.
Being a photographer is really hard work! I studied hard and qualified in this medium whilst working full-time and doing part-time work experience with a fantastic mentor who helped me become the photographer I am today. I am constantly reading articles and journals to help me improve my skills and knowledge, and keep up to date with recent trends. Photographing your wonderful family or your wedding or engagement party requires a level of skill and experience to capture it.
I know everyone has their own budget and I encourage you to reach out to photographers whose profiles you like in your area to see what they can offer for your investment. For instance, I offer 2-3 flexible photography packages depending on what you are after. I considered all budgets when I sat down and worked out my pricing and packages. Even if you can’t find something you are after in my prices I can draft something up to see if it fits. Flexibility is key with me! However, if you can’t afford the professional photographer you absolutely love, then my advice is to spend as much as you can on getting the best within your budget. Ask to see other photographer’s profiles and what they can offer you in your budget range. Sure, some photographers will not reduce their prices to meet your needs, but do your research and be prepared to put some work in yourself. You will find the right one for you!
